It was a not-so-veiled shot at Cam Newton, which led to a curious scene ahead of Thursday's preseason game between the Bills and Panthers. In fact, things may have escalated. The Buffalo Bills wideout claimed the Panthers were "bad" for him and that he wished he'd started his career with a more "accurate" quarterback. Newton followed Benjamin, but nothing positive seemed to come from their continued dialogue. The beef stems from this quote from Benjamin speaking to The Athletic on his time in Carolina. "I wasn't even trying to listen". "I get it. I know what that's like, but you'd like to see him kind of move forward to his new team and embrace his new opportunity, rather than kind of go personal on it". It was a bad fit from the get-go.
"If you would've put me with any other quarterback, let's be real, you know what I'm saying?"
Benjamin may have walked away from the tense exchange with Newton, but he was happy run into the end zone shortly thereafter. He responded on social media in his Instagram story. A first-round draft pick, Benjamin looked destined to be Newton's top receiver for years until the injury, and he never reproduced his numbers from a strong rookie season after returning from injury.
First the video. Then the responses, which weren't very kind to the Buffalo star, in general, although Benjamin scored a first quarter touchdown and jumped into the stands to celebrate.
