Alexandria woman kills husband in Walmart parking lot

Kayla Giles, 31, was charged with second-degree murder in the killing of Thomas Coutee Jr., who was found shot in the chest in the parking lot of an Alexandria Walmart at about 11:15 a.m. on September 8, police said.

"Emergency personnel responded and attempted to resuscitate the man, but were unable to, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene", police said.

5. Thomas Coutee, Jr.

"[He] will be remembered for his kind heart, silliness and sweet Louisiana accent", FORD Brothers Racing crew stated on Facebook. "Prayers for your family". "Being a Teacher is my true passion and career, and I am glad I chose this path in life".

"The victim was identified as Coutee's husband, whom she was meeting to exchange custody", police said.

The couple married in October 2014 but separated in February 2018. Coutee had initially sought joint custody.

"Never beg for a friendship or relationship with anyone".

Giles, who has been charged with second-degree murder, was further accused of a "history of domestic abuse" against Coutee in divorce papers filed last month.

Local news website Town Talk says that Mr Couttee had filed a police complaint about his wife being violent in the past, and had filed a motion against joint-custody.

It's not clear at this time exactly what led to the shooting, but the two were estranged. However, there was a report made to Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office on May 28 about an incident. They cuffed her and took her into custody. He also provided photo evidence of the redness that the slap caused.

Giles shot Coutee once in the chest on Saturday in front of three children, one of which was a daughter they shared together.

The text reportedly read that Giles "knocked the s*** out of Thomas. It felt good tho (sic)". He declined to press charges and declined to give the deputy Kayla's phone number because he "did not want her to be contacted".

A protection order had also been filed against Giles on August 23, 2018, but three attempts to serve it were not successful according to records.
