Pakistan's ex-PM Sharif, daughter released for his wife's funeral


(WebDesk) - Preparations are underway to perform the final rites of former first ladyand wife of former Prime Minister and PMLN Supremo Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Kulsoom Nawaz tomorrow, after Friday Prayers.

Sharif, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Capt (retd) M Safdar, now serving jail terms in the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after being convicted by an accountability court in a corruption case in July, have been released on parole for Kulsoom's funeral.

Former first lady's funeral congregation will be held in Sharif medical city where the arrangements are being done to bid farewell to her.

PMLN President and brother to the PMLN Supremo Nawaz Sharif, Shahbz Sharif has reached London last night.

On Thursday, hundreds of people attended the funeral prayers of Kulsoom at London's Regent Park mosque.

The visitors condoled the death of Begum Kulsoom with Hamza Shehbaz Sharif and Salman Shehbaz at the open area and no one was allowed to meet Nawaz, Maryam and Safdar - who were being kept at a place in the farmhouse where mainly their relatives were allowed to meet them.

Her sons, Hassan and Hussain Nawaz will not be able to attend her funeral prayers in Lahore on account of corruption charges and arrest warrants levelled at them.

Her body has been moved to a mortuary near the Regent Park mosque. Both have been declared absconders by an accountability court in the corruption cases.

Nawaz Sharif sons, grandsons, Shahbaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar and Son and Chaudhary Nisar among others attended funeral prayers of Kulsoom Nawaz.

In case of late burial of a body, the rules provide three day extension in parole period which is further extendable by another three days.

Video footage from Geo TV showed Sharif walking through Islamabad's airport amid tight security to be flown to the eastern city of Lahore, near the family home.

Sources inside Jattiumra say Nawaz Sharif saw his mother and a couple of other members of the family and spent most of the time quietly in his room.

The Sharif family had requested that a five-day parole be granted to the three.
