Raiders' Jon Gruden Calls out Khalil Mack After Trade

Although there appeared to be some early-season rust, the Rams shined in their Monday Night Football matchup against head coach Jon Gruden and the Oakland Raiders.

The Oakland Raiders came into Week 1 with high expectations, and after a strong first half, it looked like they just may hang with NFC West champion Los Angeles.

"I don't have any doubts that Derek Carr is going to be great", Gruden said (via The Athletic). He was very comfortable in the second half of that game. He also had another spectacular play, bowling over cornerback Aqib Talib to reach a first down.

Matt Patricia of the Detroit Lions and Jon Gruden of the Oakland Raiders had a chance to reverse that trend ... but they didn't. "I can't wait to get started and get ready for the Broncos". They gave us multiple looks.

The Lions self-destructed during a humbling 48-17 loss to the New York Jets that saw Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford toss four interceptions and the team commit a number of terrible plays on defense and special teams. Then with less than two minutes to play, summer acquisition Marcus Peters intercepted a pass and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown.

But Gruden is on Year One of a 10-year contract and calculated that the draft picks and cap space he acquired by trading Mack to the Bears will be worth it.

Aaron Donald, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, held out of training camp and reported 10 days before the opener after signing a six-year, $135-million contract extension, to end a contract dispute that dated to 2017.

Of course, there's nothing that says a player has to be traded just because he doesn't show up.

"I just got to do things better", Donald said.
