Reality TV dating show doctor, woman charged with California drug rapes

This year, the episode found a new audience: prosecutors - who now say that Robicheaux, with his girlfriend, Cerissa Laura Riley, used this "charm" to lure at least two women back to his apartment under false pretenses, where the couple raped them. And Robicheaux faces an additional charge of possessing an assault weapon charge.

"Well, a wolf can wear scrubs... or a wolf can be a attractive woman", Orange County district attorney Tony Rackauckas said in a press conference.

"There are thousands and thousands of videos and images on Robicheaux's phone", Rackauckas said. It was not clear whether they were represented by attorneys.

Prosecutors say there is no evidence that any of the alleged assaults took place in a medical setting or that the drugs came from a hospital.

He said Riley and Robicheaux met one woman, 32, at a restaurant in Newport Beach in April 2016. "In one video, Rackauckas says, the couple is in a bar, Cerissa introduces her (self ). and then introduces her to Robicheaux and then they invite her to a party".

"Your conscious decisions to party with these defendants. does not give them a pass to rape, assault or have sex with you once you're past the point of consent", he said.

Robicheaux was formally charged on September 11 with rape by use of drugs, oral copulation by anesthesia or controlled substance, assault with intent to commit sexual offense, possession of a controlled substance for sale and possession of an assault weapon, the D.A.'s office said in a statement.

The surgeon and his girlfriend came to the attention of authorities when a young woman screamed for help and the physician's neighbour called Newport police on October 2, 2016.

Rackauckas said his office can not make those images public, but everything suggests those women were also victims of assault.

The couple's attorneys, Philip Cohen and Scott Borthwick, denied the allegations in a joint statement provided to multiple news outlets.

"Dr Robicheaux and Ms Riley believe that such allegations do a disservice to, and dangerously undermine, the true victims of sexual assault, and they are eager to have the proper spotlight shed on this case in a public trial", they added.

Neither of the victims were patients of Robicheaux, but authorities are investigating whether or not he assaulted patients.

The California medical board has opened an investigation into Robicheaux's conduct.

"None of the allegations in this matter relate to or concern Dr. Robicheaux's medical practice or patients in any way", the attorneys said.

Both of the accused have been freed on $100,000 (£76,000) bail bonds.

"There are a substantial number of videos, I can not tell you if it is 10s or 100s, it is certainly more than 10s", the top prosecutor said in an interview. Robicheaux was named Orange County's "Most Eligible Bachelor" by Orange Coast Magazine in 2013.

Investigators are trying to identify the women in the clips.

"Based on this evidence, we believe that there might be many unidentified victims out there", Rackauckas told reporters this week.

Grant Robicheaux once appeared on a United States reality TV show called "Online Dating Rituals of the American Male".

Investigators say the pair worked "in tandem" to meet women at bars, drug them or coerce them to drink large amounts of alcohol, and then bring them back to Mr Robicheaux's apartment to be assaulted.

The district attorney said the pair may have travelled to events including the Burning Man festival in Nevada, the Dirtybird Campout festival in Silverado, California, the Splash House festival in Palm Springs, and landmarks near Page, Arizona, since 2015.
