The game was lauded for its approach to combat which sidestepped controlling individual members of a party for a system whereby you place leaders and warriors together in unions, issuing broader commands that the union follows.
Back in 2008 console players were captivated by The Last Remnant's epic storyline, the countless characters and its detailed battle system.

The game will be available digitally on 6th December 2018 priced at £15.99 / €19.99. As it turns out, Square Enix is planning to re-release The Last Remnant all these years later. We don't know very much about it yet, but the trailer's YouTube description says that it's been "enhanced via an updated game engine". Given its recent delisting from Steam, however, it seems likely the game will at least come to the latter platform sometime down the line. A few months later, the game made its way to Windows, and though it was also slated for a PS3 release at one point, that version never materialized.
There's no telling of what else will be in the Last Remnant remaster aside from the regular game, but hopefully it will get the success and praise that it didn't get when it first released back in 2008. At the time of its release The Last Remnant was positioned as a new next-gen RPG from the creators of Final Fantasy and was well received by fans and critics. No word yet about an worldwide release.
