Chelsea fans are also anxious over Hazard's recent statements, with the forward suggesting that he will have to move to La Liga if he wants to win the Ballon d'Or.

'Eden is a fantastic player, ' said Sarri. "So I think for his father, probably the Europa League is not important, but for us it is important".

Hazard reiterated at the start of the worldwide break that joining Madrid remains his "dream" and he wants to "make it happen", but added that he is open to discussing a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge.

Hazard has been linked with a move to Real Madrid over the past few months.

Meanwhile Sarri said Hazard could realise his individual ambitions while remaining at Stamford Bridge. He can win the the Ballon d'Or here, because for example if Chelsea win the Champions League, and the Belgium national team can win the European Championships, he can win everything without playing in Spain.

"I think also he can win everything, also the Ballon d'Or, here, without playing in Spain".

In response to former Madrid president Ramon Calderon's claim that Chelsea are treating Hazard like a "slave" if they deny him his dream, Sarri laughed and said Hazard is happy at the club.

'I don't know what to say, ' chuckled the Italian. I love the fans - I think the fans love me!

"I think also in our last six matches, Christensen has played in three".

Alvaro Morata's future at Chelsea has also been subject to speculation after a miserable start to the 2018-19 campaign, but Sarri has no intention of letting the Spain striker leave.

'I have not told him because I have seen him for the first time in the last two weeks only yesterday but I want to tell him very soon'.
