5 people found dead in vehicles torched by fire

Thousands had to flee their homes in California wildfire.

Butte County Sheriff Korey Honea said one of the additional deaths was said to be near those vehicles, another was inside a residence and at least three were said to be outside of residences.

The Camp Fire, which broke out on Thursday at the edge of the Plumas National Forest northeast of Sacramento, has since blackened more than 90,000 acres and was only 5 percent contained as of nightfall on Friday.

Fire officials couldn't estimate how many buildings were lost from the so-called Woolsey Fire burning in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, but said they were expected to be significant. Video depicting the evacuation shows traffic moving in a contraflow pattern, with cars flowing in one direction on both sides of the a highway to get people out of harm's way and stalled traffic amidst a hellscape of smoke and flames. Officials have put most of Northern California under a Red Flag Warning, which means "extreme fire behaviour" can occur within 24 hours.

Almost 30,000 people were forced to evacuate on Thursday when a wildfire roared through this California town, located about 180 miles northeast of San Francisco.

Typically, for Los Angeles at least, the serious headlines are interspersed with others reporting that the mansion from the television series The Bachelor is burning, or that the homes of former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner and pop icon Cher, are at risk. "And if you've been told to go, get out of there".

However, Highway 101 was still shut down in the Agoura Hills area, according to authorities.

The Woolsey Fire jumped the 101 Freeway at Liberty Canyon Road and Chesebro Road.

The fire crossed U.S. 101 a few miles east of Thousand Oaks - the site of Wednesday night's bar shooting - and was headed south to the Pacific coast, in the direction of Malibu Creek State Park and Malibu city, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

As of Friday morning, evacuation centers were set up at Thousand Oaks High School, at 2323 North Moorpark Road; the Borchard Community Center at 190 Reino Road in Newbury Park; and Camarillo Community Center at 1605 Burnley St. A fire had broken out in her yard, blocking the path to her auto.

"We have received reports of some fatalities".

The fire rapidly climbed into the Santa Monica Mountains and raced toward the coast.

Celebrities were among those forced to flee, including Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian.

Current and former residents include Barbra Streisand, Cher, Tom Hanks, Judd Apatow and Britney Spears.

"The whole town is burning", Bob Van Camp, a Paradise resident who escaped on his motorbike, told local TV channel Action News Now.

Milano, a leading force in the #MeToo social movement against sexual harassment, asked for help getting five horses out of the area.
