Race to Dubai: Tommy Fleetwood's title defence over

The Open champion capped off an incredible year at closest competitor and friend Tommy Fleetwood, with his 26th place finish at -6 proving good enough to top the Race to Dubai list and pocketing €1m. "It's been tough. I'm just massively proud of myself and everyone that's been around me".

"I never thought something like this would happen to me to be honest, and now it's going to be a challenge to reset before next year and work as hard as I did the past winter and try to reproduce the same golf".

Willett, who has struggled for form and fitness since winning at Augusta National, fell out of the top 450 in the world rankings earlier this year, but was in great form at the Earth Course, where he shot 68 or better on all four days. "I lasted within two days of the (end of the) season and like I've said, it was always a stretch trying to win it". Another Englishman, Matt Wallace, is also only two adrift as he seeks his fourth win of the season. You kind of know when your time's up.

'You know, now I'm going to have time to sit down and relax and really think back about the last few months.

"Today pretty much summed up the second half of the season".

Molinari, on becoming the new European number one and the first from Italy to do so, said it was an unbelievable feeling.

Danny Willett outfought fellow Masters victor Patrick Reed on the final day of the DP World Tour Championship.

This morning on the first tee, the announcement of the victor of The Open Championship, Race to Dubai leader. doesn't sound real at the moment.

"With the limited schedule that I play over here on the European Tour, to have a chance to go out and finish the year off right and win a golf tournament, give myself a little early Christmas gift of a trophy, would be unbelievable", Reed said. I've seen guys that I think are better players than me not winning Majors and not winning Order of Merits or Race to Dubais.

Molinari finished his round and even though it was evident that Fleetwood wasn't going to win the tournament, he spoke to the media only after Dylan Frittelli posted a score better than Fleetwood's.

"It's just an incredible achievement again". Now it's so nice to be playing my sixth week out of seven feeling as fit as I've ever felt.
