Following pressure from the ruling AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu, three cuts from AR Murugadoss' Deepavali release Sarkar have been made after state-wide protests from the ruling party.

There have been protests by AIADMK workers in the state against the film. Last night Tamil Nadu cops went to the residence of AR Murugadoss but returned back after the top director was not available. The ruling leaders of Tamilnadu pointed a couple of scenes that seem to be instigating violation against the government and warned the makers to face legal action if the scenes are not voluntarily cropped. In the movie, Komalavalli, essayed Varalaxmi, is the daughter of former chief minister and plays the antagonist.

The 2 scenes that have been agreed to be removed include removing of the name "Komalavalli", which AIADMK claims is the birth name of J Jayalalithaa. They were referring to the scene in the film where freebies like a mixer and grinder were thrown into the fire. His tweet read, "Police had come to my house late tonight and banged the door several times.Since I was not there they left the premises". AR Murugadoss moved the Madras High Court on Friday which has given him protection from arrest till November 27. Produced by Sun TV Network chairman Kalanithi Maran on behalf of Sun Pictures, "Sarkar" starring Vijay and Keerthy Suresh in the lead was released on Tuesday.
