'Too short' Tom Cruise to be replaced for Jack Reacher reboot

Readers had complained about the Hollywood actor's suitability to play the imposing former major in the United States military police since his casting was announced in 2011.

"Cruise, for all his talent, didn't have that physicality", Lee told the BBC during an interview. "In the books, Child describes Reacher as 6'5" with hands the size of dinner plates. He's a really, really nice guy.

The biggest complaint about Cruise is that he was too small for the role of Reacher, whose size and physicality often play big roles in Child's novels.

Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher franchise is getting a major makeover, by recasting the titular role of Mr. Reacher.

In the Jack Reacher series, the title character is a U.S. Army veteran who works as a detective for hire. Bout 10yrs ago I went after the role, but Cruise got it.

Tom Cruise is many things: Academy Award nominee, action film legend, and the very public face of Scientology One thing he is not is two metres tall, and that seems to have precluded him from appearing in the upcoming Jack Reacher reboot.

He also said he'd be open to hearing fan suggestions about who should helm the character in the future. Praising Cruise for his talent, Child admitted "ultimately the readers are right".

Lee continued, "The idea is that when Reacher walks into a room, you're all a little nervous just for that first minute". Instead we're going to take it to Netflix or something like that.

But who will become the new Jack Reacher? He's a big-time movie star and film producer who, aside from The Mummy and the summarily canceled "Dark Universe", regularly makes millions (if not billions) at the box office. The sequel film, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back showed a big drop in returns, earning just $162M on the same $60M budget, despite partnering Cruise with Captain America and Avengers actress, Cobie Smulders. "We're rebooting and starting over and we're going to try and find the ideal guy".
