The unaffiliated Senator from Vermont - who ran as a Democrat in 2016 - has been on the defensive for weeks while he mulls another presidential bid, as several former campaign staffers have made allegations of sexual misconduct and pay disparity.

Sanders says he was unaware of Becker's alleged behaviour.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders apologized Thursday to women who say they were harassed while working on his 2016 presidential campaign. However, to the women who were allegedly harassed, he said that "what they experienced was absolutely unacceptable and certainly not what a progressive campaign, or any campaign, should be about".

Sanders had apologized before, albeit not in such a comprehensive fashion.

The anonymous staffer, who is in her 20s, and other witnesses told Politico Becker said he wanted to have sex with her while at the Philadelphia bar. But when Becker recently reached out to her over a potential 2020 Sanders run, she changed her mind and chose to tell top Sanders aides.

According to POLITICO, Mr. Becker "oversaw Sanders' Iowa campaign, then helped lead his efforts in Michigan, California and NY as deputy national field director" and has reportedly started calling former staffers to prep for Sanders' potential 2020 run over the past few months.

Weaver is reportedly leaving because Sanders needs his staff to be more diverse after facing accusations of not understanding racial issues.

Friends of Bernie Sanders, the senator's principal campaign committee, told Politico in a statement that "Robert Becker would not be a part of any future campaigns".
