BET is apologising after a tweet offended Nicki Minaj forcing her to cut ties with the network. "We are committed to doing everything we can to address the situation", the statement read in part.
But that was followed by a social media storm of criticism that she was undeserving of the award, and the drama increased after BET compared Cardi B to her Grammy-winning rival Nicki Minaj, which said she was "being dragged by her lacefront" after Cardi's Grammy win.
BET added it is "conducting an internal audit" over the incident, and said it has apologised privately to both the rapper and her team, while the post has been deleted. We understand Nicki's position and look forward to continuing our dialogue with her. Finally, we apologize to all of her fans.
Even though the rapper has been dealing with trolls, she does have supportive fans in her corner and took to Twitter to thank those people for standing by her. Since Nicki seems to be the only one repping Young Money these days, her threat may not hold much weight on the way this year's awards weekend will play out. "This should have never happened".
As of Monday afternoon, her name still appears on BET Experience's official site, as does that of another co-headliner, one who-perhaps tellingly-is slated to perform on a different night: Cardi B.
Cardi shared an expletive-laden video shortly before deleting the account. "I'm not performing for that summer show anymore", she wrote, whole Wayne responded, "I'm with you". "Seeing Cardi b win a Grammy make me feel like I won", J. Cole tweeted.
