EA is planning Apex Legends to go mobile, cross-play

It's now common knowledge that part of EA's strategy for rolling out Apex Legends involved giving influencers an early look at the game, which resulted in a fair amount of leakage ahead of its official reveal. Overall, the company had a total income of $262 million with net bookings reaching $1.609 billion. "Respawn also plans to launch a premium game this year that is a new twist on the Titanfall universe", Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA said during an earnings call yesterday. The reality of playing with friends across different platforms is still new, so it should gain more traction as time goes on. Fortnite and Rocket League both have jumped into the cross-play scene and have received much praise for doing so. We are now applying the strengths of our company to sharpen our execution and focus on delivering great new games and long-term live services for our players.

To date, Battlefield V has sold a healthy 7.3 million copies across all platforms, but that's a million less than EA had indicated in its guidance. "FIFA stands out as a robust franchise through a tumultuous year in the video game industry", Jorgensen said.

Any sort of competitive mode in Fortnite has been one of the most requested features since the battle royale mode launched in September of 2017, but it still hasn't been added in.

Over the last two years, gamers have increasingly flocked to the battle royale segment. Investors are certainly being cautious-EA's share price is down more than 13 percent this morning. But none were able to knock Fortnite off the top spot until Respawn Entertainment's Apex Legends came around.
