President Trump Preps for El Paso Rally

Violent crime did not drop in El Paso "immediately" after a "powerful barrier" was put up. They have said their principal goal is to call for further construction of a border barrier at the frontier with Mexico.

Beto O'Rourke is not shying away from the spotlight as President Donald Trump prepares to hold a rally in the El Paso hometown of the former congressman and potential presidential candidate.

"The country will be watching, and it falls on all of us to tell the true story about the border", O'Rourke said Sunday on Twitter.

"We will meet lies and hate with the truth and a vision for the future", he said in a video over the weekend touting the counter rally.

"The president is coming to El Paso Monday".

As he explores a run for president in 2020, O'Rourke has condemned Trump's demand for a wall on the southern border. The events, which will feature music and other speakers, are meant to highlight El Paso's strength as a binational community - and push back against Trump's long-sought border wall.

Trump's rally comes just four days before the possibility of another government shutdown.

El Pasoans on both sides of the political aisle have pushed back against Trump's false assertions.

For his part, O'Rourke raised an eye-popping $80 million during his 2018 Senate campaign, when he came close to unseating Republican incumbent Sen.

Reports say Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Senator Ted Cruz will be in attendance for the President's speech.

Weeks later, two national groups sprang up to "draft" Beto into running for the White House.

Another Texan who has already declared his candidacy for president is also criticizing Trump's rally in El Paso.

In his State of the Union, President Donald Trump said a "powerful barrier" had cut crime rates and turned El Paso, Texas, from one of the nation's most risky cities to one of its safest.
