Reacting to a remark by BJP leader, Harish Dwivedi about the Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's choice of clothes in a demeaning manner, former chief minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti slammed the BJP leader and said "what a woman chooses to wear is none of anybody's business".

On Monday, Priyanka Gandhi's husband Robert Vadra, now embroiled in investigation by the Enforcement Directorate, urged people to ensure her safety.

The 47-year-old Priyanka - she is usually referred to by just her first name - bears a striking resemblance to her grandmother, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and is known for her gifts as a speaker able to connect with voters.

Indira Gandhi, India's only woman prime minister and known as the "Iron Lady", was criticised for suspending civil liberties for almost two years starting in 1975. Party workers have planned a roadshow when the three leaders travel from the airport to the party's state headquarters.

The ruling BJP has often criticized the Congress party for what they term "dynastic politics".

"Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress" newly appointed General Secretary of eastern Uttar Pradesh will touch the land of Lucknow today. "The youth of Uttar Pradesh need a roadmap for the future and the state needs change", he said.

"Come align with us and bring change to Uttar Pradesh", he said.

Priyanka Gandhi has been tasked with reviving the party in UP.

Ahead of her debut, Priyanka said she hoped to usher in "new politics" in Uttar Pradesh, which Premier Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party won in 2014 national elections and again in state polls in 2017.

Priyanka opened a Twitter account Monday and drew more than 85,000 followers in hours.

Upon being asked about the possible impact of Priyanka's entry into active politics ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Dwivedi told media persons in Basti, "For me or the BJP, Priyanka Gandhi is not an issue".
