PSG boss Tuchel suprised by Di Maria's hostile Old Trafford reception

With PSG superstar Neymar and main striker Edinson Cavani both ruled of the trip to Old Trafford, Di Maria will have an important role to play on Tuesday night.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suffered his first defeat as Manchester United caretaker manager and Paul Pogba was sent off as Angel Di Maria returned to haunt his former club and help Paris St-Germain take control of this Champions League last-16 tie.

Di Maria, who had a beer bottle thrown in his direction in the second half, drank in the criticism from United fans, many of whom have not forgotten his disastrous spell at the club in the 2014/15 season.

On the pitch, the Argentine was slow off the mark.

The Argentine also got into an earlier collision with Ashley Young that saw him tumble into the advertising boards on the side of the pitch.

No yellow came, but the stick kept coming.

Again, though, it was Di Maria that had the last laugh as he assisted PSG's second goal of the night moments later when Kylian Mbappe slotted past David De Gea.

Manchester United signed the Argentine global from Real Madrid in the summer of 2014, in a deal worth £60 million, smashing the then British record transfer fee.

Di Maria arrived in Manchester after leaving Real Madrid in 2014 only to leave a year later for PSG with just four goals and an impressive 11 assists to his name in 32 appearances.

There wasn't much doubt which way it was going to go for Angel di Maria.

Under the Norwegian, United have now won 10, drawn one and lost one. He [Di Maria] was a bit nervous and needed to be calmer in the first half.

Paris Saint-Germain's head coach Thomas Tuchel said of the shove: "There was no need to push Di Maria into the fans but I don't think it was on objective". "In the end he did well". Di Maria has since thrived in France and enjoyed the best individual season of his career in 2017/18.
