See Will Smith As Genie In Disney's Aladdin Trailer

Disney granted fans a sneak peek Sunday night at its upcoming live-action "Aladdin" movie during commercial break for the 61st annual Grammy Awards.

In the short clip, Aladdin, played by Mena Massoud, is seen uncovering the lamp and unleashing a whirlwind of blue smoke, from which the Genie emerges.

Considering the late comedy icon Robin Williams performed the voice of the original genie, Smith has some pretty big shoes to fill.

The first trailer of the film debuted in October 2018, though fans only got a quick look at Aladdin and his famous lamp. The film opens in theaters on May 24, 2019 and also stars Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as the Sultan, Nasim Pedrad as Jasmine's handmaiden, Billy Magnussen as a potential suitor for the Princess, and Numan Acar as Jafar's right-hand man. Smith posted on Instagram after the ad aired. There's either too much CGI or too little CGI used on Will Smith here, and the ultimate effect is something right out of the uncanny valley. "You really don't know who I am?" asks Genie. For his part, Smith said, "I think it'll stand out as unique even in the Disney world. There hasn't been a lot of that hip-hop flavor in Disney history".

Aladdin opens on May 23 in Australia and May 24 in the United States and UK.
