Will the departure of Michonne be the final nail in the coffin of AMC's The Walking Dead?

Danai Gurira, who rocketed to fame after joining AMC's zombie series in season 3 as the steely badass Michonne, will be departing the show after the tenth season. Gurira has signed a new deal, according to The Hollywood Reporter, to appear in a handful of episodes in the upcoming season, the show's 10th, and it will be her last.

The Walking Dead continues on AMC Sundays and returns Mondays on Fox UK.

Danai Gurira is bidding farewell to the AMC show, Variety reports.

Another star of hit zombie drama The Walking Dead is expected to leave the long-running United States series after much speculation.

The Walking Dead is set to return for the second half of season nine on Sunday, which will herald the arrival of the Whisperers. It is likely that she will segue into the three TWD film spin-0ffs opposite Andrew Lincoln, who plays her character's love interest, Rick Grimes. It's time once again to reflect upon the characters that we've loved - OK, in some cases, at best kinda put up with - and lost.

Danai's star has been on the rise since starring in Black Panther previous year, with subsequent appearances in Avengers: Infinity and Avengers: Endgame. "But we certainly would want her on the show as long as she wants to be on it", Madden said. "She is an incredibly valuable character and I'm really hoping she stays", he added. It is believed that she will also be present in the highly anticipated Avengers: Endgame, which hits theaters in April.
