Even before big upset, Virginia has history of NCAA flops

A third would tie him with Billy Tubbs and Kelvin Sampson all-time in OU history. The Sooners were the three-point shooting team in the Big 12 and only attempt of their shots from deep, so they aren't a huge threat to stretch the floor. From this point forward, OU has nothing to lose. Virginia was stumbling, and that unique feeling from March 16, 2018 - the impending doom, simultaneously impossible and inevitable - was flooding back.

Virginia found itself in familiar territory on Friday at Colonial Life Arena against No. 16 Gardner-Webb when the Cavaliers were down 36-30 at the half to the Runnin' Bulldogs, who played an outstanding first. But Virginia's ability to not wilt under all that pressure is a credit to Bennett's work on his team's psyche over the past year. "We got out of the first round my freshman year".

Once again, it will be Kristian Doolittle running the show for Oklahoma. Diakite, making his first career start, had 14 points and nine rebounds.

Christian James and Brady Manek led Oklahoma (20-14) with 13 points apiece, but they combined to shoot 9 for 26. If the Sooners want to make a run at an upset, they will need a similar effort vs the Cavs.

How much more of the madness Hunter & Company experience may depend on how much he grows into Virginia's go-to-guy role.

One of the best things about social media is that it allows fans to interact with their favorite teams and players. Less than an hour before the game, Jack Salt was listed in the starting line-up provided by Virginia. Scoring is expected to be considerably tougher on Sunday, when the 9-seed Sooners take on the top-seed Virginia Cavaliers at 7:45 p.m. ET in Columbia.

Virginia's attack, like Ole Miss', is led by a strong back court trio. Kyle Guy and Ty Jerome will have the veteran savvy for this group, but Hunter is far and away the team's best player.

That's when Hunter took over the game like only a potential lottery pick can. Guy is an elite shooter who drains almost 46 percent of his 3-point attempts on more than seven threes per game. He chose Gardner-Webb over Kent State, Manhattan and LIU Brooklyn.

Virginia (30-3) advanced to Sunday's round of 32 against No. 9 seed Oklahoma, a 95-72 victor over No. 8 MS in the South Region. Yeah, we can breathe a little bit easier now, but at the same time, it's the NCAA Tournament, so like you said, we're not relaxed. Virginia has the nation's best defense at 55.1 points per game and is well-suited to shut down any attack. It's been far from a flawless season for the Sooners after going 7-11 in the Big 12, but some strong non-conference victories and a big win over juggernaut Kansas were enough to vault Kruger's team into the field.

. That alone would be cause for concern for Oklahoma, but this is just a bad matchup for the Sooners on multiple levels.
