Fitbit launches four new wearables to make fitness tracking more affordable

Meant for kids, the fitness tracker records physical activities, sets goals for users, is swim-proof and has a battery backup of five days.

Fitbit has announced a selection of new fitness trackers, each more budget-friendly than some of the company's current lineup.

The Versa Lite Edition boasts a four day battery life and comes in four colours: white, lilac, mulberry and marina blue.

Versa Lite can be considered a simplified version of the Versa that comes with just the basic features and is priced affordably to appeal to the mid-range buyers.

Fitbit has announced that four new wearables will be available in South Africa this April. These include automatic activity tracking, constant heart rate monitoring and sleep tracking.

Fitbit is making a bid for low-end wearable market dominance with four low-cost smart devices: the Fitbit Versa Lite Edition, the Inspire and Inspire HR, and the Ace 2.

The company said on Wednesday it believes that growth represents "a large opportunity" to bring new consumers into the category by offering smartwatches and trackers that are accessible and affordably priced.

First, the Versa Lite is similar model to last year's Versa, featuring the same design with a softened square body and small touchscreen, as well as a blood oxygen sensor (SpO2), able to count footsteps, track exercises, monitor your sleep, check your heart rate, and even survive a swim. The Versa Lite features only a single side button, rather than the three found on the Versa.

The Fitbit Inspire HR™ is the brand's most affordable 24/7 heart rate tracking device, and also comes with exercise and Sleep Stages tracking, more than 15 goal-based exercise modes, connected Global Positioning System, and Relax guided breathing.

Designed for kids aged 6 and above, the Fitbit Ace 2 aids healthy habits through motivating challenges.

The update will also include a new section, Fitbit Focus, which will provides users with messages and tips to keep them informed and motivated.

Finally, there's the Fitbit Ace 2. Inspire is priced at Rs 6,999. Inspire HR will be available in black, lilac and two-tone black and white colors at Rs. 8,999. The Fitbit Ace 2 can be availed in colours like Watermelon with a teal clasp and Night Sky with neon yellow clasp. It has swim-proof water resistance and would be available in the second quarter of 2019 for Rs 6,999.
