Charles was released from prison on January 3 after he was sentenced to 35 years in prison back in 1996 on drug trafficking charges.

Matthew is said to be using the money to pay his rent so he can save up for a house of his own in the future.

The bill is called the First Step Act, and Matthew Charles was the first person to be released as a result.

The 38-year-old first heard about Charles' story from a Nashville Public Radio article about his return to prison. After his release, Charles was invited to the State of the Union as one of Trump's guests.

The reality star has been constantly working for criminal justice as she ran a campaign to free Alice Marie Johnson in June a year ago after she was imprisoned for non-violent drug offense.
