Gronkowski, who announced his retirement from the National Football League after nine seasons on Sunday in an Instagram post, wasn't known for playing golf in any serious manner. Since 2010, Cardinals tight ends have combined for 485 receptions. With the Patriots, Gronkowski won three Super Bowls and was named first-team All-Pro four times. The 29-year-old player has also added 81 receptions for 1,163 yards and 12 touchdowns with regards to impressive playoff stats. Just to see how dominant Gronkowski was, take a look at some of the highlights of the 2011 season.
Gronkowski faced retirement questions all week leading up to Super Bowl LIII, and he answered them as honestly as he could, saying that he'd have to wait until the season ended to decide on his future.
"Thank you for everyone accepting who I am and the dedication I have put into my work to be the best player I could be", Gronkowski wrote.
Gronk's more famous play in this game was a block, when he bulldozed safety Sergio Brown all the way off the field - he "threw him out of the club", as the iconic quote went. "Your fun-loving, inspiring, and positive energy made an impact on everybody you came into contact with!" he wrote. Rawley spoke with TMZ Sports on Monday, and said he was confident that Gronkowski would be back in a WWE ring soon.
One of the immediate takeaways from Gronkowski's decision to walk away from the NFL is his inevitable place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Since falling to the Patriots in the second round (42nd overall pick) in the 2010 NFL Draft, Gronkowski has 79 touchdowns. He dominated the Broncos the entire game, catching 10 passes for 145 yards and three touchdowns. But for the past nine seasons, Brady always has been able to exploit one mismatch, at least whenever Gronkowski has been healthy and on the field.
Of all the big plays Gronk made in his career, none encapsulated his singular combination of talents more than this catch-and-run against the hapless Redskins defense.
