YouTube Music & YouTube Premium Subscription Services Launched in India


Here's how YouTube Music and YouTube Premium differ.

YouTube Music is a music streaming service where you could either just listen to the songs or watch the videos as you now do in the main YouTube app. The iOS app charges Rs 129 per month per user.

"India is where the multi-lingual music scene thrives" said Lyor Cohen, Global Head of Music at YouTube, in a statement. YouTube Music as the company claims is the one-stop for music.

If you've turned on location, YouTube Music says it will show playlists "inspired by where you are".

The free version of YouTube Music offers ad-supported music streaming on desktop and mobile via an app. Think of it as a YouTube app, but with a focus only on music and music videos.

After the recent launch of Spotify music streaming service in India, Google has now released YouTube Music service as competition in the country. "Music from India has always been so much more than just the audio".

YouTube has announced the launch of YouTube Music in South Africa. These new services add to the services portfolio of Google in India - the company had already earlier launched Google Play Music and Google Play Movies services in 2017. There will be a music home screen that dynamically changes based on your interests and what's trending.

Some of the features includes personalised recommendation, pre-made playlists across genre, mood, activity, or language.

A smart search feature that will allow the app to find a song even if the user can not remember the title. Users can gather all the music at one place through YouTube Music, as stated with "Ads'".

Users can also download their favorite tracks. Additionally, the paid subscribers will also get offline downloads.

Users can download songs or just like them to create a list of liked songs or albums.

According to YouTube, between March 1-7, the top three overall artists on the global top artists chart were all Indians- Neha Kakkar, Alka Yagnik and Kumar Sanu. YouTube Music is a different app altogether and unlike the YouTube app plays even when the app has been minimised. In India, YouTube has been only offering online videos.
