Set to arrive on June 7th, Dark Phoenix looks to be a visual spectacle with plenty of action, and an emotional center to keep it grounded. The clip begins with a lengthy summary of the X-Men's first "space mission", which finds Jean first coming into contact with the titular entity. By now, numerous trailer's story beats will be familiar to anyone who's been keeping track of the movie's marketing.
I guess if you've got nothing to lose and no future to plan for, you can go out with a bang, so Dark Phoenix could potentially very violent and not very forgiving for our heroes. The phoenix rises with Sophie aka Jean, but in a negative light. Hopefully we're proven wrong.
Of course, there are quite a bit of powers that are used to tell that story as well, and we see Jean not only absorb the alien power force that will turn her into the Phoenix, but she also deflects lightning attacks launched by Storm, and even shatters Magneto's helmet into pieces.
But Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique remains unconvinced by the apparent miracle as Jean struggles to harness the incredible powers she has developed following the accident. Once the team returns back home, a smitten Cyclops jokes that all the kids have taken to calling her "Phoenix".
If that's not indication that little miss Jean Grey might go full-tilt evil in Dark Phoenix, we don't know what is. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet.
