"I mean, [the news is] coming from the EA Star Wars Twitter handle, so it's certainly part of the plan, but I don't know whether it's implicitly referencing previous comments they made after our project was killed?"
"I think it started with EA approaching us at Respawn, and asking".
"We needed to cut away to the villains, for one thing, which was something I never allowed us to do on Uncharted".
"As they finish Game of Thrones, they're going to segue into Star Wars".
EA has multiple teams of developers that have worked on Star Wars games before in the past, and they were passed over in favor of Respawn. While Titanfall 2 wasn't a massive commercial success, partially due to the fact that EA chose to compete with itself by releasing Battlefield 1 at the same time, it was still a critical hit and made a legitimate case for GOTY back in 2016 for many publications, including ours.
"I was surprised at how emotional I was about it", he told "GMA".
Though this may appear as another EA u-turn, the story is likely less interesting.
Disney CEO Bob Iger recently confirmed that Star Wars films will be going on hiatus for a few years, after Episode IX graces the big screen this December. Star Wars is a significant part of these fans' lives, and thanks to events like Celebration, there will always be a place that they can share that love. So you still go OK, Luke is the hero of the story, but when you look at Han and Leia they're co-protagonists. It was rumoured (and I strongly believe this rumour holds a lot of weight) that Benioff and Weiss are working on a Lord of the Rings-esque Star Wars trilogy set in the Old Republic. It's definitely a bit weird to say that considering the team's origins, but it's not any less true.
