Wilson is now the highest paid player in the league with a $140 million contract extension over four years. His new deal will pay him $35 annually and included a chunky $65 million signing bonus.

Recent rumors linked Wilson to the New York Giants as Eli Manning's replacement and suggested he might demand a trade if he and the Seahawks failed to agree to a long-term contract extension by Monday. Wilson's previous $87.6 million, four-year deal was signed at the beginning of training camp in 2015 and was set to expire after next season.

Wilson also took to social media after resigning with the team, sharing an intimate video of the couple, who will celebrate two years of marriage in July. The deal reportedly was completed just before midnight Monday, after which a sleepy-eyed Wilson tweeted a video about it as he lay in bed with Ciara (suitable for work). "Go Hawks!" she said, with Russell adding, "I'ma see y'all in the morning. Time for ya'll to go to bed". Wilson's agent, Mark Rodgers, arrived at team headquarters last Friday to hammer out a deal, according to ESPN.

Russell Wilson just got PAID.

Wilson, the team's starting quarterback since 2012, announced the news via Twitter early Tuesday morning.

"Russell loves this town, this team and these fans and part of the compromise involved his affection for all things Seattle", Rodgers said. Even if he played out 2019 under his current deal, Seattle could have used the franchise tag if needed to keep him under contract through 2020 and 2021 at reasonable prices by QB standards.

He reached the playoffs in six out of his first seven campaigns including bringing the first championship to the organization by winning one of out two trips to the Super Bowl. Defensive tackle Jarran Reed is likely to get paid as well.
