But this isn't the only new tablet from Amazon, as the company has also announced a new version of the Amazon Fire 7 Kids Edition. You can also get it in a two-pack for $149.99. "For under $50, we're making it even better for customers with a faster processor and 2x the storage, so customers can enjoy even more of their favorite entertainment at home and on-the-go".
Kevin Keith, Vice President, Amazon Devices explains, "Fire 7 is our best-selling tablet with tens of millions sold". This is an low-priced, colorful plastic tablet with a 7-inch, 1,024-by-600 screen, dual-band Wi-Fi, a MicroSD memory card slot, a VGA front-facing camera and 2MP rear camera for video chat, and a mere 1GB of RAM.
Faster processor-With a quad-core 1.3 GHz processor, quickly and easily switch between apps, stream movies, and browse the web. The capability to use Alexa hands-free remains from before.
The new Amazon Fire 7 will be available in Black, Twilight Blue, Plum and Sage shades, and is available to pre-order from today (May 16), with the slate shipping from June 6.
Oddly, battery life isn't as stellar as it once was, with Amazon promising seven-hours compared to eight, but the device does retain the same £49.99 price-tag as its predecessor.
The device comes with a two-year guarantee - if your child breaks the tablet, Amazon will replace it free. This is an insane value, especially as Apple charges $399.99 for the iPad mini!
The Fire 7 and Fire 7 Kids Edition are now available for pre-order, with the tablets launching June 6.
The Kids Edition comes with the same upgrades as the standard version but also adds an adjustable kickstand in its ruggedized casing. Of course, you can still expand storage up to 512GB with a microSD card.
Fire 7 will also be available in stores and online at Argos, Dixons, John Lewis & Partners, Tesco, very.co.uk and littlewoods.co.uk.
