De Ligt: Barcelona and Ajax nearing final agreement

As a result of his exceptional season with the Dutch outfit, De Ligt has caught the attention of some of Europe's biggest clubs.

Only 19 years of age, he is already captain of the historic club, who were cruelly knocked out in the semi-finals of the competition after Lucas Moura scored in the 95th minute to send Spurs through to the final against Liverpool.

Barcelona were reported to have struck a deal with De Ligt's representative Mino Raiola in March over terms for the Holland centre-back to move to the Nou Camp in the summer.

He has led Ajax to the brink of the Eredivisie title just days after their Champions League run came to an agonising end at the hands of Tottenham.

Nevertheless, the final negotiations are yet to be known but De Ligt's inclusion in Barcelona's squad will surely bolster the defense line of the club as the Dutch defender has been phenomenal, despite not reaching to his true potential yet.

"There have been conversations, but there is still no agreement".

Matthijs de Ligt admits he may have played his last home game for Ajax.

Chief executive Edwin van der Sar reckons his golden goose will move to either the Premier League or La Liga this summer.

"If I were in charge of Manchester City, I would take Maguire over de Ligt".

"He [de Ligt] is a top player", he said.

However, another former Liverpool player Steve Nicol doesn't think Jurgen Klopp will sign the defender and our very own Seb Stafford-Bloor reckons the Reds should give the summer transfer market a swerve altogether. You never know, of course.
