Giolito looks to stay hot as White Sox visit Blue Jays

Lucas Giolito allowed one run over seven innings, and Yonder Alonso and Tim Anderson both smacked fourth-inning home runs to lift the visiting Chicago White Sox to a 5-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Jays have won seven of their past 10 games against the White Sox.

The run support has been particularly problematic for the Blue Jays, who fell to eight games below.500 with the loss, a new season low. He will be making his second start against Toronto and his first at the Rogers Centre.

"To get them out of town was a good feeling, and get somebody else up there", reliever Daniel Hudson said.

"He minimized damage in the first inning and then he started throwing strikes and getting people out early in the count", he said.

Anderson, who has developed a reputation for post-homer celebrations, said he wanted to flip his bat after going deep against Toronto in this series but didn't after connecting off Sanchez. Right-hander Matt Shoemaker tore his ACL last month and is out for the season, while left-handers Clayton Richard and Ryan Borucki are also on the injured list and have yet to appear in a major league game in 2019.

The Chicago White Sox will look to win the series after evening the set up at one win apiece following a 7-2 win over Toronto in game two on Saturday.

One for mom: Toronto's lone run came in the first inning.

White Sox Injuries: Carlos Rodon: 10-day IL (elbow), Michael Kopech: 60-day IL (elbow), Nate Jones: 60-day IL (elbow), Eloy Jimenez: 10-day IL (ankle), Jon Jay: 60-day IL (hip).

Anderson did not flip his bat after his homer. Toronto scattered eight hits in the loss, leaving six on base for the game. Her condition was not immediately known. He will be playing for his 14th team, a major league record. Jackson had been pitching in Triple-A before the trade. Acquired from San Diego on April 2, Brito hit.077 in 17 games, striking out 17 times in 39 at bats.

In a separate thread, Slusser tweets that the cash that the Blue Jays will be sending to Oakland will "more than likely...cover the amount the A's spent on the minor-league portion of Jackson's contract".

White Sox: RHP Ivan Nova (1-3, 7.04) will make his eighth start of the season and the sixth away from home. The Chicago pitching staff as a whole has an ERA of 5.29.

Stroman (1-6) was angry when removed from yet another start when he received little run support.

Sanchez, who was coming off a season-high seven-inning outing against the Twins, tossed a season-high 11 strikeouts, almost matching his career-high of 12 Ks in 2016, but came apart in the fourth as he fell to 3-4 this season.
