The TV singing contest that launched Underwood's career is wrapping up its second season on ABC and 17th overall (it was previously on Fox).

The current trio of judges, music superstars Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, are still in negotiations with ABC. For this episode, viewers will be able to vote by text, via AmericanIdol.com/vote and on the "American Idol" app during the show.

Variety has reported that Season 3's judging panel is not finalized, which could explain why the judges and host are radio silent. TVLine has reported that the network has made offers to all three judges to return, though no deals have been made yet.

Sunday night's broadcast of American Idol featured the Top 5 contestants each performing three songs live to hopefully win America's votes so they could receive exciting hometown visits as well as a spot in the final performance show.

A Louisiana singer makes it into the top 3 on American Idol. Laine Hardy is from Livingston Parish, just East of Baton Rouge and he will be celebrated today.
