Huawei assures Sri Lankan customers after Google suspends deal

It said this as the trade war between China and the U.S. government escalated to global proportions after President Donald Trump, in a bid to protect privacy of USA citizens, added Huawei to a trade blacklist making it hard for the company to do business in America.

The trade war with China has reached new heights in the past few weeks, as the Trump administration recently announced that U.S. companies will be banned from buying equipment from certain Chinese companies. The consensus view is that anyone with a Huawei and Honor handset should be safe for now.

New designs of Huawei smartphones won't be able to access some Google apps, following Google's decision yesterday to block the Chinese tech giant from updates to the Android operating system. Also in his remarks Tuesday, Zhengfei touted the company's 5G prowess and said that politicians in the U.S. have not only underestimated Huawei but that rivals won't even be able to catch up to the company for another two or three years.

An immediate, complete restriction on the Chinese tech firm's US transactions could have deteriorated US-China trade relations further.

Google have announced that they will restrict the use of their Android operating system on Huawei phones, but what does that mean exactly? And it's not clear how Huawei can sell many laptops without a Windows license.

"Don't point your fingers at USA firms". But what little evidence the US has presented in the case against Huawei doesn't justify this kind of drastic action.

But the order presents as "reasonable cause" only the recent indictment of Huawei in an alleged scheme to export networking equipment containing USA technology to Iran, in violation of US law.

Ren said today that Google has been trying to persuade the US government to "solve the problem", and also said his company was working on a "rescue solution", but did not elaborate.

"For this ideal, there will be conflict with the United States sooner or later".

Huawei's relationship with the United States has been anything but smooth over the a year ago, but this past weekend saw the company take its biggest hit yet. It seems that USA leaders aren't telling the public everything they know. And Google hasn't been the only company distancing itself from Huawei - top chipmakers Intel, Qualcomm, Broadcom and Infineon have also reportedly cut ties with the firm. Existing phones will function as always, but they may no longer be privy to future software and security updates.

Huawei is still prohibited from buying American-made hardware and software.

Huawei along with other 70 affiliates were added to the US Commerce Department's Entity List on national security grounds, disallowing the company from purchasing parts and components from US companies without government approval.

"The current devices will continue to support Google services and Google updates", Francisco Jeronimo, associate vice president for European devices at IDC, told CNBC by telephone. (ZTE was on the hit list, largely for skirting USA sanctions against Iran and South Korea, but was removed after its executives lobbied President Trump.) Why doesn't it apply to Germany's Deutsche Telekom, Britain's BT, Finland's Nokia, Sweden's Ericsson or Mexico's America Movil?

Huawei seems not bothered at all by the threats and bans issued by the American government.
