Jimmy Carter Breaks Hip at Home, Undergoes Surgery


Former President Jimmy Carter is recovering "comfortably" from surgery after he fell and broke his hip at his Georgia home, his nonprofit said Monday.

Former President Jimmy Carter is recovering after falling and breaking his hip this morning, according to a statement from the Carter Center.

The release said Carter's main concern is he hasn't reached his limit on turkeys with the season coming to a close May 15.

"Praying President Carter has a strong recovery as he was coming to hunt with us this morning for the final week of turkey season", Tyler said. "He hopes the State of Georgia will allow him to roll over the unused limit to next year", Congileo wrote. His wife, Rosalynn, has been with him.

At the time he revealed the cancer, he said he felt "perfectly at ease with whatever comes". "I've had thousands of friends, I've had an exciting, adventurous and gratifying existence".

Carter, who served from 1977 to 1981 as the 39th USA president, has been in remission from cancer since undergoing surgery in 2015 to remove a small mass on his liver.
