A spokeswoman for the family of a slain Chicago woman whose baby was cut from her womb with a butcher knife says the infant boy has died. "He passed away this Friday June 14, 2019 from his severe brain injury".
The child, which the family later named Yovanny Jadiel Lopez, was treated in the neonatal intensive care unit at a Chicago area hospital.
"He can't breathe on his own". "There's no medicine, there's no pill that can fix that".
"It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of baby Yovanny Jadiel Lopez", the statement said. She was then strangled and her unborn baby cut from her.
Three people have been charged in connection with the murder, which police called an "unspeakable act of violence". The infant is attached to various tubes and appears to be asleep in his father's arms.
Doctors wouldn't speculate on the baby's survival chances, but there was hope after he opened his eyes at the end of May.
"The funeral will be a PRIVATE event for family only".
A mother and daughter are charged in Ochoa-Lopez's killing.
Clarisa Figueroa was arrested along with her daughter, Desiree Figueroa, and her boyfriend, Piotr Bobak.
All three suspects are expected back in court this month.
Officials said the murder had been planned for weeks. "Only a miracle" could heal him, she said.
When she was dead, the elder Figueroa cut the teen's baby from her womb. The teen returned on April 23 to accept Clarisa Figueroa's offer of free baby clothes, and as Desiree Figueroa was showing Ochoa-Lopez a photo album of her late brother to distract her, Clarisa Figueroa sneaked up behind her and strangled her with a cord.
Julie Contreras, a spokesperson for the family, posted a statement to her Facebook page revealing news of Yovanny's death.
She posted on the page again the following month, asking, "Who is due in May" and "Where is the May mama's at". She didn't know whether Yovani Lopez, Ochoa-Lopez's husband, was with his son at the time of death, though she noted he regularly spent the night at the hospital.
Authorities contend that not long after Clarisa Figueroa's adult son died of natural causes, she told her family she was pregnant.
Marlen Ochoa-Lopez, 19, was lured to the home of an older woman who was in a mother's Facebook group.
Ochoa-Lopez disappeared on April 23. The neighbor said the woman told her, "I just had the baby, and it's not breathing".
Investigators searched the area and found Ochoa-Lopez's vehicle nearby, Deputy Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said.
He was admitted to the hospital in what police described as "grave" condition. DNA tests later proved that the baby was Ochoa-Lopez's child.
A memorial of flowers, balloons, a cross and photo of victim Marlen Ochoa-Lopez are displayed on May 17 in Chicago, outside the home where she was killed in April.
"Words really can not express how disgusting and thoroughly disturbing these allegations are", Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said last month.
