Today's stream indicated that Gunfight is just a small fraction of the multiplayer that will be shown during the reveal. Infinity Ward then linked to four streamers now playing the mode live: CouRageJD, TylerTeeP, ProSyndicate, and LEGIQN. While most Call of Duty matches take roughly ten minutes, you can expect Gunfight matches to run about 5 minutes each; longer if all the players are timid.
If neither team can win a round within the 40 second time limit, a flag will spawn somewhere on the map. If you haven't yet pre-ordered a digital or physical version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, simply go to any participating retailer (or you can go here, for example), and redeem Classic Price with your purchase now!
Each team will also switch to the opposite side of the map every two rounds.
Moments ago, fans got the first glimpse of the game's new 2 vs. 2 Gunfight mode, which is only a fraction of the full, online multiplayer experience in Modern Warfare. We played on King, which was small enough that it was nearly impossible to avoid encounters, but just large and diverse enough that you could give your enemies the slip just long enough to create ambushes. King has lots of wooden cover scattered around the map that gives you a chance to hide or break your opponent's line of sight, but there is no regenerating health in Gunfight, so you either have to commit to a fight or be quick and smart about evading your enemies. As much as I want to make fun of this mode's name, the gameplay actually sounds pretty solid.
Gunfight looks like a mode built for the more competitive, high-skilled Call of Duty community.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare features a new engine delivering an immersive and photo-realistic experience. We got a nice taste of the game today, but the full reveal event is happening on August 1st. As for the story itself, it'll be completely new, rather than a rehash of the 2007 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare narrative, dealing with some hard-hitting subject matter.
