Kelly (C) arrives at the Leighton Criminal Courts Building for a hearing on June 26, 2019 in Chicago, Illinois. Further details on the case are expected to be announced Friday in federal court for the Eastern District of NY.
A 13-count indictment was handed down earlier Thursday in federal court for the Northern District of IL and includes charges of child pornography, enticement of a minor and obstruction of justice, USA attorney spokesman Joseph Fitzpatrick told The Associated Press.
The R&B singer, 52, was taken into custody by NYPD detectives and federal investigators, according to the sources.
Those charges are in addition to 10 charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse levied against him in February. Kelly is expected to be brought to NY.
Darrell Johnson, Kelly's representative, said he will hold a press conference at 9:30 a.m.
Kelly has been the subject of allegations of sexual assault and abuse for two decades.
He had been charged with aggravated sexual abuse involving four victims, including at least three between the ages of 13 and 17 years old.
After a dramatic trial, Kelly was acquitted in 2008 of child pornography charges, also in Chicago.
The disgraced R&B star pleaded not guilty to 11 new sex assault charges last month.
Musician R.Kelly has been arrested and charged with child trafficking offences, according to two law enforcement officials out of the US.
Kelly has denied allegations he sexually abused women and girls. Kelly pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Those charges against Kelly stemmed from the alleged sexual abuse of Jerhonda Pace, then a minor, that she says took place in 2010.
In an emotional interview with CBS's Gayle King in March, Kelly screamed and jumped out of his chair to declare his innocence.
