Matthijs de Ligt: Ajax captain 'awaiting possible transfer' - Juventus favourites


Ajax departed for Austria as part of its preseason plans, but without its captain as Matthijs de Ligt stayed behind.

Juventus have are close to signing Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt for a fee worth £63million.

It is also reported that De Ligt is set to earn around €15-20 million annually, as the Italian Champions have also reportedly reached to a personal agreement with the player.

There been speculation in Italy that the move may happen today so that De Ligt can be announced over the weekend and join Juventus on their Asian tour this summer.

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf revealed on Friday that De Ligt will play for Juve next season, turning down the other offers he had on the table, including one from Barcelona.

Ajax travel to a training camp in Austria on Saturday, while Juventus are heading to Asia next week.

De Ligt, who turns 20 next month, is expected to join Serie A champions Juve after wowing with superb displays during Ajax's thrilling charge to the Champions League semi-finals last season.

Sarri's side have already made six summer signings with Adrien Rabiot, Aaron Ramsey, Gianluigi Buffon, Luca Pellegrini and Merih Demiral all arriving, while Cristian Romero was purchased from Genoa before being loaned back.
