The new Mortal Kombat movie will be rated R


Insight into the new Mortal Kombat movie has been slowly trickling out since its announcement in May. It had been talked about elsewhere, but Russo confirms that not only will the Mortal Kombat movie be R-rated, it will also show those lovely Fatalities for the first time in an MK movie.

Because let's be real Mortal Kombat games are awesome fight games.

"Since it's already been stated by other members of the team, I'm gonna put this one to bed", Russo wrote in the tweet. Besides Mortal Kombat, he's writing Death Note 2 for Netflix, and is adapting the video game franchise Saints Row for F. Gary Gray to produce and direct.

We're not entirely sure we want to watch D'Vorah's infestation Fatality play out in live-action, but we'd certainly be down for some of the more entertaining moves like Erron Black's ricochet shot Fatal Blow making an appearance.

The upcoming Mortal Kombat movie reboot will be an R-rated picture. Equippable shields don't exist in Mortal Kombat, Mr. Cage! The film has no release date, but it is going to be released by Warner Brothers Studios. New Line Cinema has announced that the Mortal Kombat movie will open in theaters on March 5, 2021, with filming set to start in Adelaide, Australia later this year.
