The book served as a Targaryen family history book published to accompany the main A Song of Ice and Fire series on which the Game of Thrones TV show was based.
Author George R.R. Martin had previously hinted via his blog that one of the prequel series would be based on the companion book. But it sure seems logical. So far, the pilot for the Naomi Watts starrer has been shot and it is yet to be seen if and when the project will get its series order.
Martin will be deriving the story from his book Fire & Blood and Ryan Condal, who is known for creating popular shows such as Colony along with Lost producer Carlton Cuse, will help him develop the pilot. "I can not say", he wrote on his blog.
"Two other shows remain in the script stage, but are edging closer", Martin continued. "But maybe some of you should pick up a copy of "Fire & Blood" and come up with your own theories". Despite the fan backlash to the finale, Game of Thrones remains as HBO's most-watched scripted original ever. The Targaryens are plagued with madness throughout their bloodline, and share a close bond with dragons. This series, which Martin said is not called The Long Night in his blog, also takes place before the events of the hit show - by thousands of years and chronicles "the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour".
The spin-off will focus on Dany’s ancestors during a time when dragons ruled Westeros
In 2018, before Game of Thrones ended, another prequel was already in the works.
The as-yet untitled project, now in post-production, will also feature Josh Whitehouse, Miranda Richardson, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, and Jamie Campbell Bower. (The second one is yet unpublished.) It starts with Aegon I Targaryen's conquest of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, then charts his reign, the lives of his sons Aenys I and Maegor I, the reign of Aenys's son Jaehaerys I, and the succession crisis following the death of his sons.
But fear not, loyal Game of Thrones fans!
