As of now, two people have been brought in for questioning as part of the early stages of the investigation.
The victims' names have not been released but police say two of the victims are from out of state.
The ages of the deceased and those shot range in age between 32 and 49 years old.
Officers based three blocks away at the NYPD 77th Precinct raced to the scene after having responded to a shooting elsewhere. but it was initially unclear what sparked the shooting.
According to Shea, evidence of gambling, including card playing, and two firearms were found at the scene. Investigators say at least 15 shots were fired.
Officials say the three injured include at least one woman, and that all injuries are serious but not considered to be life-threatening.
The spokesman, Detective Adam Navarro, said calls came in at 6:55 a.m. about shots fired at 74 Utica Ave. The gambling operation was unlicensed, but police had not previously received any complaints about the location, authorities said.
While no arrests have been made, Shea said several people were being questioned over the shooting.
