A gender reveal party outside the town of Turkey, Texas went horribly wrong when an airplane hired by the celebrating couple stalled mid-stunt, causing it to crash and land upside down in dramatic fashion.

One passenger suffered minor injuries when the plane crashed September 7 near the town of Turkey, about 260 miles (420 kilometers) northwest of Dallas.

The plane, which flipped over when it hit the ground, suffered substantial damage to the fuselage, right wing and empennage.

According to documents from the NTSB, the pilot was 49-year-old Raj L. Horan the passenger in the plane was Jennifer J. Hurrell, age unknown, both of Plainview, Texas. "The pilot reported that there were no pre-accident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation".

Two people were aboard the plane at the time.

The family in that story had made a stand for a controlled explosion that would spew coloured powder, but local police said the use mechanism had turned it into a "pipe bomb".
